Networking
My entire network is multi-gigabit for the best speeds to my NAS. The router is an Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE and with it's firewall the network
is protected from attacks. It's connected through Fiber (I had the transcievers already) to a TP-Link switch. Its sadly unmanaged, but has 8 10gbit SFP+
ports and 24 2.5GbE ethernet ports. It's fast and does a great job letting all of my devices connect and utilize my entire 1.2gbit internet connection
from Xfinity.
Servers
The main server I use every day is my custom built Proxmox server. It has a Ryzen 7 5800x cpu because of the amazing single-thread performance it offers for the price.
It runs many of my projects and game servers for my friends. For the performance it's pretty efficient and the average draw is less than an amp.
The second server is a Dell Poweredge r720xd with 12 3tb hard drives. The drives are all 10 years old so I expect to start replacing them in the future. The server
runs TrueNAS Scale and the NAS has a few drives and a time machine volume to help keep my data safe. I was going to possibly start backing up to the cloud, but it was starting
to get a little pricey. On that note, power here is very expensive so I only turn the server on a few times a week to back up, as the server itself costs about $70/mo in
power per month if it was running 24/7 365.
